We don’t just service pianos—we build tools and resources to advance the craft. Here are our projects born from a passion for piano technology and education.

Viper Tuner piano tuning software interface
Piano Tuning Software

Viper Tuner

Viper Tuner is an advanced piano tuning application developed by Cody Handlin in collaboration with Joe Kujawski, a NASA-trained engineer, friend, and longtime client. Drawing on more than 35 years of hands-on tuning experience and Joe’s expertise in signal processing, Viper Tuner combines aural traditions with cutting-edge digital technology to deliver a tuning tool built by a technician, for technicians.

Unlike generic chromatic tuners, Viper Tuner is purpose-built for the unique challenges of piano tuning—accounting for inharmonicity, stretch, and the nuanced listening skills that define a great tuning. The software is currently in active development, with prototypes being refined in real-world tuning sessions.

Whether you’re a seasoned RPT or a student just starting out, Viper Tuner aims to be the most intuitive and musically sensitive piano tuning software available.

Encyclopedic Reference

The Piano Almanac

The Piano Almanac is a comprehensive, encyclopedic reference for piano history, manufacturers, serial numbers, and technical information. Created and curated by Handlin Piano, it aims to be the definitive online resource for anyone researching piano brands, dating their instruments, or exploring the rich history of piano manufacturing.

The project brings together data from historical records, manufacturer archives, and decades of hands-on experience into a searchable, well-organized digital format. From Steinway to lesser-known regional builders, The Piano Almanac covers thousands of piano brands and their histories.

Whether you’re a technician identifying an instrument, a collector researching provenance, or simply curious about your family piano’s story, The Piano Almanac is your starting point.

Revolutionary Piano Moving

Vivachi Piano

Vivachi Piano is home to The Grand Chandler—a revolutionary piano moving system developed in collaboration with Texas A&M engineers. Born from decades of hands-on experience moving pianos of every size and condition, The Grand Chandler represents a fundamental rethinking of how pianos are transported safely.

Using advanced materials, innovative engineering, and high-tech approaches, this system sets a new standard for piano moving—prioritizing the safety of both the instrument and the movers. Prototypes are in active development, with the goal of transforming an industry that has relied on brute force for far too long.

At Handlin Piano, we’ve repaired too many instruments damaged by other movers. The Grand Chandler is our answer: move smarter, not harder.
